Price guide

What dog boarding and daycare cost.

Built from 59 kennels’ and daycares’ own posted prices in 5 cities, not from national averages. Every figure is recomputed whenever a price changes.

Boarding, per night

The lowest posted nightly rate per facility runs $23 to $100 (median $58.90, middle half $47 to $68, 53 facilities). Suites or luxury rooms start at $59 to $120. Many kennels charge by dog size, and a second dog sharing a room usually costs less than a second booking.

Cat boarding, where offered, starts at $17 to $74 a night (7 facilities).

Daycare, per day

A full day starts at $16 to $65 (median $39, 53 facilities) and a half day at $18 to $37. Packages and passes cut the per-day cost to $15 to $45; if you use daycare weekly, compare per-day package prices, not the single-day rate.

Vaccines and why kennels ask for them

Kennel cough (canine infectious respiratory disease complex) spreads most easily where many dogs are housed together, such as kennels and daycares. Bordetella bronchiseptica, canine parainfluenza and canine adenovirus type 2 are common causes, and the AVMA says a veterinarian may recommend Bordetella and canine influenza vaccines for dogs at risk. (AVMA) (AVMA)

AAHA’s vaccination guidelines treat rabies and distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus as core vaccines for every dog, and Bordetella and canine influenza as lifestyle vaccines chosen by risk, such as boarding. (AAHA) The CDC advises keeping pets up to date on rabies vaccination. (CDC)

On this site, 27 facilities list rabies, 23 DHPP, 26 Bordetella and 5 canine influenza as required (of 27 that post their rules). Some vaccines need time to take effect, so ask your veterinarian how far ahead to book.

How these figures are made

  • Only prices posted on facilities’ own public pages count. Estimates never enter these figures.
  • For each facility we use the lowest posted price for one dog. Packages, memberships and second-dog prices don’t set the nightly or daily figures.
  • Facilities whose website terms bar reuse are listed without prices. Full methodology.
